After spending an hour with these two high school sweethearts, it’s pretty clear how perfect they are for each other! They are so comfortable with each other, you would think that they’ve already been married for 20 years. I guess that’s not too surprising, since they’ve been friends since they were in 7th grade and have been dating for seven years. Kendra and John do so much together – they were in Marching Band together, they went to college together in Pittsburgh, and they moved to just outside of Boston together- you can just tell from spending time with them how much they love being with one another. They both just light up when looking at each other, and they don’t mind being a little goofy together!
Kendra and John are getting married on June 3rd of next year – the day after Kendra’s parents’ wedding anniversary! So when she told me that her parents had gotten their wedding day portraits done at Princeton University, of course we had to use the beautiful campus as the location for their engagement session. Kendra has pictures of herself as a young girl playing on the Oval with Points sculpture, so we started our session there.
John told me that he got down on one knee to ask her to be his girlfriend seven years ago – how romantic is that?!
Kendra is a grad student in Psychology and John is an engineer for Intel – between the two of them they don’t have a ton of free time! But they still manage to make sure to always make time for each other, whether it’s going out for a walk or just hanging out at home watching Netflix and cuddling their cat.
John had been trying to wait for the perfect opportunity to propose, but one random Wednesday he just couldn’t wait any longer. He took Kendra to the park in Pittsburgh where they were going to college and popped the question after lunch.
How cute is it that one of the first pictures that Kendra and John have with each other is them sitting just like this! In truly their own style, both Kendra and John have an engagement ring! In the wedding world, there are so many traditions that are just always assumed, and I love that these two don’t feel the need to adhere to those just because everyone else does. Just one of the reasons why I am so excited to work with them for their wedding!
Have I said how much I love Princeton’s architecture?!
These two were awesome. As we were walking out, I saw this ivy-covered wall, and even though it might not look that pretty just walking by, they trusted me and pushed back their ice cream date to take a few more pictures! They were even willing to lay down on the ramp for me to get a few fun overhead shots. Can I just reiterate how excited I am for their wedding next year?! Congratulations again on your engagement, Kendra and John!
